From ancient tribal civilisations to the colonial period, the Archaeological Museum of Jaffna is a treasure trove of relics and exhibits that narrate the eventful tales of the city. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The museum dates back to 1975, when it was constructed on land gifted to the Department of Archaeology by a wealthy resident. Ever since, it has become the primary source of information to learn and understand the early history of the city.<\/p>\n

What to Expect<\/h4>\n

At present, the museum is home to several relics obtained from archaeological sites around the peninsula. Some of the more prominent relics in the museum are items obtained from the Kadurugoda Raja Maha Viharaya that was a significant place of worship during the 14th<\/sup> and 15th<\/sup> centuries of the Jaffna Kingdom.<\/p>\n
